Environmental Biotechnology

Anaerobic hydrogen production from unhydrolyzed mushroom farm waste by indigenous microbiota
Chiu-Yue Lin, Chyi-How Lay, I-Yuan Sung, Biswarup Sen, Chin-Chao Chen

Highlights

・Mushroom waste has hydrogen production potential using indigenous microbiota.
・Optimal pH of 8.2 for peak hydrogen production rate was obtained by Ratkowsky model.
・Han-Levenspiel model was slight higher than that compared with Andrew model.

Biochemical Engineering

Influence of pH and neutralizing agent on anaerobic succinic acid production by a Corynebacterium crenatum strain
Xiaoju Chen, Xuefeng Wu, Shaotong Jiang, Xingjiang Li

Highlights

・Strategies for pH control in anaerobic fermented phase were optimized to improve succinic acid production by C. crenatum.
・pH 6.8 was the optimal value for anaerobic succinic acid production by C. crenatum.
・Mg(OH)2 used as neutralizing agent for pH control resulting the highest succinic acid concentration.
・Results are helpful for designing a efficient succinic acid production process when Corynebacterium sp. used as strains.

Highlights

・Liposomal thrombomodulin conjugate was fabricated via direct liposome formation with recombinant TM-lipid.
・Liposomal thrombomodulin conjugate showed potent anticoagulant effect in thrombin-induced thromboembolism mouse model.
・Liposomal thrombomodulin conjugate showed increased circulation time compared to that of recombinant thrombomodulin.

Highlights

・Control of pH and shaking speed in the production of natural Monascus yellow pigments.
・Mycelial morphology of Monascus purpureus was greatly affected by culture conditions.
・The hyphal diameter was correlated with the biosynthesis of Monascus yellow pigments.
・Scale-up production of the Monascus yellow pigments was achieved at 401 U/mL.

Cell and Tissue Engineering

Activation of unfolded protein response pathway is important for valproic acid mediated increase in immunoglobulin G productivity in recombinant Chinese hamster ovary cells
Kamal Prashad Segar, Vikas Chandrawanshi, Sarika Mehra

Highlights

・VPA increases qP of Mabs along with increased IgG HC-LC mRNAs in stable CHO cells.
・Transient induction of ER chaperones directly proportional to VPA concentrations.
・p50-ATF6 and XBP1s are key transcription factors to increase qP under VPA.
・HDAC inhibition and increased UPR activity are critical for increase in qP.
・VPA treatment doesn't affect the product quality.
